    Just what part of the sermon on the mount does he think supports civil unions? The article doesn’t say. Judge not? I honestly don’t know what he is referring to.

    I believe it’s just one of the great mysteries that maybe one day he will condescend to share his grace with us and explain.

    Actually, I think the Sermon on the Mount is just code for someone to encapsulate the lovey-dovey stuff they think is good in the scriptures (or ought to be in the scriptures) but without really worrying about, you know, the specifics.

    You mean the specifics like not wearing clothing made of two different kinds of fibers?

    That’s the problem with using scriptural texts to buttress a position, sociopolitical or other–it’s not the text that matters, it’s the *interpretation*.
