Should Mormons Hate Huckabee?: No

Should Mormons Hate Huckabee?” The answer is no, but Romney supporters (not the same thing) have reason to not like his campaign.

Huckabee’s success wasn’t entirely unrelated to Romney’s Mormonism but has also been a result of his relentless personal attacks and use of class warfare against Romney.  It’s hard to believe McCain reaching the nomination without Huckabee running as the spoiler.

    Amen to that, brother!

I don’t hate Huckabee, but I don’t hate anybody. Would I ever vote for the guy? Not unless he was opposing someone more bigoted about mormons than he appears to be.

Absolutely No! Mormons should not hate Huckabee. As an individual, Huckabee is a person of great worth. As presidential material…not so much. Some Mormons have the ability to see through BS.

Huckabee wasn’t running as the spoiler. He actually wanted to be president.
Huckabee asks one question about the Mormon faith and now he’s a bigot? That’s what the media, thin skin, and paranoia will get you.
I’m your common, garden variety, born again, Christian. No organized religious affiliation. I have a very close friend who is Mormon. She and I have yet to disagree on matters of faith. We don’t talk about our different “religions”, we talk about good and evil, feeling united in our belief in God.
So please, don’t buy into what the media tries to force feed you.

    Nancy,

I agree that the media pushed the anti-Mormon/Evangelical angle and the supposed religous rivalry between Huckabee and Romney.

But, it was not one question. Huckabee definitely benefited from anti-Mormon feelings and did very little to denounce it. He did ask that inexcusable question in the NY Times that no context could excuse or explain. As a minister, he understood full well what he was talking about.

Moreover, his constant campaigning as a “Christian Leader” was definitely targeted at hurting Romney, his main challenger in Iowa. He in effect, was constantly reminding Iowa Christians (who overwhelmed the Iowa caucus in record numbers) that Romney was a weird Mormon.

Huckabee did not do much else to explicitly address Mormonism but his surrogates did and when asked, Huckabee refused to denounce it.

I don’t think it was Romney’s main problem but it hurt, especially in Iowa.
