I'm confused. The survey they use to back up their claim is a survey of Evangelicals, who were mostly Republican, and who mostly supported Bush. It's no surprise that Evangelicals tended to be less likely to support Romney because of his religion, regardless of their party affiliation. That's the whole point. Evangelicals in general didn't like Romney, and Evangelicals make up a significant part of the Republican base.

So how do we jump from that to saying that Democrats as a whole (not just the Evangelical democrats) are equally anti-Mormon? This seams like a case of whisper-down-the-lane where the conclusion doesn't match the original data.

I have seen other surveys which do show a significant number of democrats saying they wouldn't vote for a Mormon, but I'd bet that's because (1) some liberal democrats would shy away from anyone that seams overly devoted to religion, as Mormons might be viewed as being, and (2) Mormons are known for conservative beliefs, so naturally liberals would be less likely to vote for them.
