Helpful little AP story that ran on Iowa news yesterday:
Mormons support Romney as he supports Mormon businesses
The Republican presidential contender and his staff have largely been using Marriott hotels while on the campaign trail, including Romney’s headquarters for the Iowa caucuses. The chain’s founder J. Willard Marriott is a fellow member of the Mormon church.
Romney has chartered a JetBlue aircraft to fly to New Hampshire after the Iowa caucuses. The airline was founded by a Mormon who now serves as the company’s chairman.

But you know, heavy criticism of our religion and or Romney’s potential loss won’t change our lives or his life one bit. We’ll go on doing what we do. I don’t think that agrieved minority thing will bear out with us because we are hard-working people who just attend to what we need to attend to.
Huckabee might think he is winning by condemning our beliefs, but what has he won? A victory won by convincing people to vote AGAINST someone else rather than FOR him is hollow.

I agree. I think in the big picture, the scrutiny and opposition is good for the Church and its members and we’ll be the better for it.
And Huckabee won’t be able to duplicate this success nation-wide.

I’m copying your comment to the later post where I think your comment was intended.

This is funny — Romney stayed at Marriott hotels and flew JetBlue therefore there is a Mormon conspiracy.

It’s downright diabolical.
Romney doesn’t even necessarily use JetBlue all the time, but just in his flight to NH after Iowa.
Plus, he was named after the founder of Marriott hotels. So they’re sort of a family connection there too. But that would ruin a good story.

J Willard Marriott and Jet Blue! That definitely proves Mormons are taking over the world. What we need next is a strong Mormon tin foil hat vendor.

Well there’s a story in the Salt Lake Tribune today that points out that the writer of such classic television shows as Little House on the Prairie and other classics was a Mormon so I guess that pretty much establishes the conspiracy.

I saw that too. In fact, I was going to link to it since my wife loves that show.
And that explains why KBYU plays it all the time.
That’s all we do - scratch each others’ backs.

There is rumor floating around that more than two thirds of all people 18 and over in Utah are actually high school graduates. No doubt about it - the world is doomed! Sooner or later these deviates will actually attend college. What will we do if they make something of themselves? Oh the horror!!!

On a serious note. This is an AP story. Somebody down there actually thinks this is news. If I was an AP manager I think I would be looking to dump whoever submitted that story as real news. Certainly they had to have been goofing off.

It is amazing to imagine if this kind of scrutiny was placed on another candidate’s religion.
I guess with time and exposure, more of the public (and the media) will someday realize we’re EVERYWHERE (cue spooky music) and maybe we’re not that weird.

I wonder if the perfect man and family picture the Romney’s present is to hard for most people to relate to. Maybe they need the picture of someone like me being dragged kicking and screaming out of a bar fight to win them over. (But that never happened you understand.)

I think there’s something to it. People who don’t like him (including many Mormons) call him plastic and think he’s too good-looking, too rich, and his family is too nice.

We have seen many Mormons who are genuinely nice people but who have been beaten over the head by family to achieve some great level of success. Some you might even call over-achievers or super-achievers. They have the notion that it is not OK to make a mistake or present a problem image for the family. It is often disguised as the need to preserve a certain image for the Church’s sake. This is especially problematic for children of very successful parents. We see that quite often here in the intermountain west. These kids are often brought up thinking success is always what the other guy has achieved. You don’t have to come from a Mormon family to have been thumped over the head with that one, but it helps. A bachelors degree isn’t good enough - you have to have a masters. And a masters isn’t good enough you have to get a terminal degree. Writing one book isn’t good enough - you have to write a highly acclaimed series. One successful business isn’t good enough you have to have a chain and go global.
