Christianity Today interviews Mitt Romney as a Mormon running for president and appealing to evangelicals.

While the doctrines of my church are quite different from evangelical Christian doctrines, the values of our faiths are very much the same. I don’t know of a doctrinal difference that would suggest a different policy outcome or that would suggest that a President of my faith would lead in a different direction than President Bush, an evangelical Christian.

And this note on the late Rev. Falwell’s recent visit with President Hinckley was interesting:

[S]everal months ago, not long before he died, I had the occasion of having the Rev. Jerry Falwell at our home. He said that when he was getting ready to oppose same-sex marriage in California, he met with the president of my church in Salt Lake City, and they agreed to work together in a campaign in California. He said, “Far be it from me to suggest that we don’t have the same values and the same objectives.”

Blech. The latter quote makes me sick.

I would think any active Latter-day Saint would find it highly disturbing that Mitt Romney places Gordon B. Hinckley right alongside Jerry Fallwell and George W. Bush on values and policy.

I think there are plenty of Christians out there that will not be able to vote for Mitt Romney due to his membership in the Church.

I used to listen to a certain local talk radio host here in the Sacramento area who is, in my opinion, so completely wrong-headed about the “war” in Iraq that I just can’t listen to him anymore. I just figure if he’s that mistaken about a topic I feel strongly about, then his entire thinking process is suspect, so I just don’t bother with him any longer.

Now, maybe it’s completely wrong of me to think that way, but I imagine there are plenty of Christians out there who take that exact attitude, as deplorable as it may be, with regard to Romney’s choice of religion. They’ll never vote for him in a million years, because they’ll never understand how he can be a Mormon since (in their opinion) it’s so obviously, and completely, wrong.

Prominent Jewish leaders even back Romney although he believes Jesus is the Son of God and they don’t.

You say, “I just figure if he’s that mistaken about a topic I feel strongly about, then his entire thinking process is suspect, so I just don’t bother with him any longer.”Speaking on the topic of war, you say someone else make a comment that you where not in agreeable with. You then say…
“Now, maybe it’s completely wrong of me to think that way..” Maybe.
Do all of your friends agree with Everything you say and believe in? What about your family members? I do believe that we have a moral obligation to look at the issues and vote for the man that is closest in line to our line of thinking. Who will stand for the things we believe that will be of benefit to our nation. Yeah America!! If you want to vote for a christian leader, so be it. If that Christian man is Romney then go vote for him. I support our founding fathers who stood for our rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (even the freedom to worship as we may). May God Bless Just don’t forget to vote!
