Deseret Morning News’ LDS Newsline is a blog

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Especially if you came from Mormon Archipelago as it only includes my major article posts.
Thanks for visiting!

The newly revamped site for the Deseret Morning News looks great.  Best of all is its LDS Newsline page which has made more than just cosmetic changes.  It’s clearly now managed as a blog.

  1. It’s updated throughtout the day.
  2. Like all other articles on the site, readers may add their comments (Who needs to write countless letters to the editor and hope they decide to occasionally print one out of the hundreds they receive?).
  3. Many of the posts during the day are just a brief paragraph and a link to an article elsewhere (however, not to blogs as far as I’ve seen) on relevant LDS issues.
  4. Some material is on the lighter side and doesn’t even appear to make it to the dead tree edition (as a Maryland reader, I can’t tell).
  5. You can follow updates with its RSS feed.

I’m tempted to add it the listing at LDS & Mormon Blogs.

Instead of just collecting from the printed newspaper the LDS relevant articles of the day (as it used to), LDS Newsline is indinstguishable from a blog. I even like that they haven’t called it a blog.   Some newspapers come off as desperate to show that they “get” new media and push blogs that are indistinguishable from their regular columnists.

I’ve noted that the Church’s Newsroom has been bloglike in the past few months as it interacts and responds to the web.  LDS Newsline is another great step forward.   Now if only the Church News could get its turn at a makeover.

Hey Dave, have you found an RSS feed for the LDS Newsline? Couldn’t see one myself.

Ryan,

They don’t advertise it well enough but the Des News lists it’s RSS feeds here:

http://deseretnews.com/site/rss/1,5184,,00.html

The specific RSS feed for LDS newsline is:

http://deseretnews.com/dn/lds/index.rss

In my view, the more people use and publicize RSS the better.
