The SL Trib notes:
Romney has said he plans at some point in the campaign to give a religion speech À la John F. Kennedy’s famous Catholic address convincing voters that if elected president he would not be a conduit for the pope’s wishes. Romney’s speech likely would be aimed at dispelling fears that his faith is abnormal or outside the mainstream.
Governor Romney is not only paving the way for his own future but for that of many LDS politicians as well as the public perception of the Church and its members for many years to come.

I’ll be very curious to see what he says. Kennedy’s speech was a good appeal for common sense in the matter, and I’m hoping that Romney can help people understand that his religious stance (having more in common w/ the general population than people would like to believe) is not some radical issue that people have to get up in arms over.

it amuses me that, in a political culture that values political correctness to a fault, this can happen. If you gay-bash, whoa. Not OK. But Mormon bashing? “Well, we all know they have more than one wife”… so it’s OK. LOL. What a double standard. Hopefully Romney’s publicity and example before the public will help change peoples’ perceptions a bit.
Or maybe I’m being too sanguine… I guess politics usually involve ‘mudslinging.’
